MALCOM ARNOLD
Four Scottish Dances
This prolific composer, who also scored the popular movie Bridge on the River Kwai, crafted four lively dances that capture the spirit of Scotland’s native music, including one dance based on a work by Sir Robert Bruce.
BRUCH Scottish Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra Robert Bokor, violin
Bruch never saw Scotland, but was inspired by its tender folk songs and energetic dances. He frames them with a dark and somber opening and closes with a dynamic march and the reprise of a gentle ballad.

MENDELSSOHN
 Symphony No. 3 “Scottish Symphony”
Mendelssohn wanted to paint Scotland on his visit, but instead he painted its beauty and history with this symphony, which draws on its grand military marches and celebratory folk music.
