COPLAND Appalachian Spring  Aaron Copland’s quintessential masterwork depicts the unfailing optimism of a young pioneer couple starting life together in rural 19th-century Pennsylvania. Copland masterfully weaves the traditional Shaker hymn Simple Gifts into the ending of this definitive work of the 20th-century American repertoire.
