Gift of Music Instrument Loan Program

After trying a French horn
at the instrument petting zoo,
three fourth-grade students from
Washington Elementary wanted
to play the French horn.
The school needed a third
horn to complete this best-friend
trio. The Symphony purchased
a used French
horn so thses students could
realize their dream!

The Gift of Music program collects, restores, and distributes band and orchestra instruments to music programs with students who cannot afford the cost of renting or purchasing an instrument of their own.

When borrowing an instrument, each child signs a contract promising to care for the instrument, practice regularly, and be in their school’s band/orchestra. The Symphony assumes maintenance and repair of all instruments.  To date, the Symphony has lent instruments to over 45 students in the School District of Lancaster.

If you know of someone who needs an instrument, please ask their instrumental teacher to contact Nancy LeVasseur, Director of Community Engagement at 291-6440 ext 303.
Or email: nancy@lancastersymphony.org.

Thank you for your contributions to our 2010 Instrument Drive!

The Symphony was able to add  many instruments to our inventory. We will be able to help even more children during the coming school year!

If you still have an instrument you would like to donate, please bring it into the Symphony offices at 226 North Arch Street in downtown Lancaster.  Or, you may drop it off at Menchey Music Service located off of Manheim Pike behind Chili's.

To make a donation to the repair fund, please send your contribution to:

Studies have shown that music education has a positive effect on children’s emotional and intellectual growth, improves basic reading and math skills, and strengthens self esteem, self discipline, teamwork, and school attendance. Children involved in a music program are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college and are less likely to be involved in gangs, violence and substance abuse.  Wont you invest in our young students?

Bring in your gently-used instruments or make a contribution today!  For more information, contact Nancy LeVasseur, Director of Community Engagement at 291-6440, ext. 303. nancy@lancastersymphony.org.
