During the Lancaster Symphony's nationally recognized Open Rehearsals with Lido, attendees gain new insights into a symphony orchestra as well as the music being rehearsed! Pre-rehearsal “chats” take place before the rehearsal and are a time when attendees may ask questions of Grammy nominee and Music Director, Stephen Gunzenhauser and the featured guest artist.

Hosted by Director of Education, Nancy LeVasseur, this informal discussion gives all who attend a deeper appreciation and understanding of the life of a career soloist.

When the rehearsal begins, Lido, the Lancaster Symphony's animated conductor's baton, is used in a PowerPoint presentation to give ongoing commentary as well as his own personal opinion about the music.  Projected on two screens adjacent to the orchestra, this light-hearted character makes the afternoon educational, informative and lots of fun for students and adults alike!

Once registered for an Open Rehearsal, the music educator or group leader is asked to select a number of students to sit on stage and observe the orchestra from that unique perspective. We also ask the students as a group, to prepare five written questions for the Pre-rehearsal Chat.

To help attendees prepare for the afternoon’s rehearsal, a study guide is available to groups of 10 or more students, free of charge.  Study guides can also serve as a valuable resource in the classroom. The Study Guide is also available as PDF files. Click here

Each attending student receivesa PARENT/STUDENT ticket voucher to use at any time during the orchestra’s current concert season. Complimentary ticket vouchers are also given to each music educator, club representative or coordinating parent who attends an Open Rehearsal while bringing a group of 10 or more.
