This historic finale features the regional premiere of Jeffrey Nytch's powerful Hunger Stones—a contemplative work inspired by ancient climate warnings carved into European riverbeds—and Brahms' joyful Academic Festival Overture, a rousing potpourri of student songs. The evening culminates with Beethoven's revolutionary Ninth Symphony, uniting orchestra, chorus, and vocal soloists in the transcendent "Ode to Joy"—a triumphant celebration of humanity's highest aspirations. From ancient warnings to eternal joy, this season finale honors 80 years of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra bringing music and community together.
