FAQ
-
Some guests enjoy dressing up and making a special night of it, while others prefer a more casual look. You’ll see everything from denim to cocktail attire—most importantly, wear what makes you feel comfortable.
-
Concert length varies, but most performances run between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours 15 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission.
-
We want every guest to have an enjoyable and immersive experience. A few simple courtesies help make that possible for everyone:
• Please remain seated during the performance whenever possible
• Refrain from talking during the music
• Silence all electronic devices before the concert begins
• If you need to leave your seat, please do so between movements or at intermission
• Applause is welcome at the end of each piece - feel free to follow the lead of the conductor and fellow audience membersIf you’re new to the symphony, don’t worry—just relax and enjoy the music!
-
The Gardner Theatre lobby opens 90 minutes prior to each concert, and Theatre doors open 30 minutes before the performance. We recommend arriving at least 20 minutes early to find your seat, enjoy a beverage from the lobby bar, and settle in before the concert begins.
-
A Pre-Concert Lecture is offered for each Masterworks concert and begins 45 minutes before the performance. It is held in the gymnasium off the lobby within Gardner Theatre and is free with your ticket.
Program notes are also available in the printed program book distributed at each concert.
-
Children are welcome; however, we do not recommend bringing children under the age of 6 to Masterworks performances. If a child is able to sit quietly for the duration of the concert, they are welcome to attend.
Please note: every attendee, regardless of age (including lap seating), must have a ticket to enter the Theatre.
-
Please silence or set to vibrate all cell phones, watch alarms, and other electronic devices during the performance. You are welcome to share your experience on social media, just be mindful not to disrupt those around you.
-
Photography and recording are permitted for personal use only and must be done respectfully and without disruption using a mobile phone. We reserve the right to prohibit photography and recording at any time, without notice.
Professional equipment, including cameras with large lenses, tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks, is strictly prohibited.
-
Outside food and beverages are not permitted in Gardner Theatre (with the exception of a sealed water bottle).
Guests are encouraged to enjoy beverages purchased from the lobby bar before the concert and during intermission.
-
Late seating will occur at an appropriate break in the performance, at the discretion of Theatre ushers. You are welcome to listen just outside the doors until an appropriate break.
